Human Trafficking: Transit Worker Approaches to Identification and Intervention

Resource Overview: This roll call training provides transit workers with tangible strategies for identifying and intervening in suspected or observed incidents of human trafficking. The training provides practical strategies that transit workers can use when encountering situations where human trafficking is encountered. The roll call training package includes: Instructor lesson plan; Scenarios; Student workbook; and PowerPoint presentation. Student learner outcomes include but will not be limited to: Defining human trafficking in the context of the transit worker, Identifying forms of human trafficking, Identifying signs of human trafficking, Identifying persons who are vulnerable to human trafficking, Describing characteristics of human traffickers, Describing methods traffickers use to control their victims, Identifying human trafficking characteristics, Utilizing the principle of S.C.A.N. (Survey, Consider, Acknowledge, Notify) and how to use it in the transit workplace.

Target Audience: This resource is designed for Public Transit Agencies and Departments of Transportation to train all levels of employees, but particularly frontline employees.

About Us

This website and the resources it houses were developed through a grant from the Federal Transit Administration. The grant project team includes the Texas Transportation Institute, the Southwest Transit Association and the Community Transportation Association of America. The team was funded to develop a program of Interactive Learning Resources and Guidance for Improving Crime Prevention and Safety for the Public and Transit Employees in response to the Federal Transit Administration’s (FTA) Crime Prevention and Public Safety grant program (FTA-2019-007-TSO).
